During long breaks or even short ones it’s very important to keep up your daily exercises so that you’re in good shape when you return back to class, or in my case school. This applies especially for professional dance training or if you’re taking many classes during the week. I am just getting off of my ten day long break. The reason we have such long breaks in the middle of the school year is because, one; we don’t have PA days, and two; for international students who are not able to see their families for long periods of time.

Each break it is a good idea to write up a routine of exercises you’re going to do. Asking your
dance teacher (if it wasn’t already addressed) which exercise’s you should do to stay fit. It’s not only exercises you should do but also stretching. If I take ten whole days off dancing, exercising and stretching then obviously when I go back to school I’m going to be sore. I’m not saying that all day you should just exercise; you also have to have your downtime, but it is imporant to have a routine throughout your break.

In the summer all students have a summer break, which is normally about two months. Plus some dance studios may end their season’s way before the end of school, so, you could be off dancing for 3 months. If during that long period of time you don’t do anything you’re bound to be sore when you get back into the next season.

As for life here at The National Ballet School regular classes were still on (dis-regarding the break) and we’ve all just been deep into our school work and progressing our dance training.
November is already here and I know my calendar’s getting booked with all of the exciting things that are going to happen. With Christmas coming there are dance shows to go see, concerts, different ballet teachers; Oh! It’s bound to be exciting.

Also on the mention of Christmas, Gabie’s annual Nutcracker Open house will be on November 19th from 10 am-4 pm and I will be there for a story time, reading The Nutcracker at 2 and 3 pm. If you have any questions or comments on my blog I will feel free to answer them at the open house or you can e-mail me at emily.mittelstaedt@gmail.com .

Hope to see you soon!
