Samantha Kobitowich, a local Newmarket Dancer with Vision Dance Academy and long time Gabie's customer, has been dancing a little more latley. That's because this past Spring she auditioned to be a member of Canada's Junior Tap Team and made it! Since, every Sunday, she makes the drive to rehersals for on average an extra 5 hours of tapping to prepare. This past weekend Gabie's was honoured to help Samantha raise some money for her big trip to Germany this December. Our customers and many of her fellow dancers came out to support and raised $200.00. To everyone who purchased a STAR for Samantha, thank-you! We are always so proud of our local dancers, especially when an opportunity as big as this comes along. We wish Samantha all the best when she, along with the rest of Team Canada, head to Riesa Germany to show the world just what Canada's got. We'll be cheering them on and hope you will too! Read on to find out a little more about Samantha and her journey.

My name is Samantha Kobitowich, and I am a member of the Canadian National Tap Team. I am a resident of Newmarket and a competitive dancer at Vision Dance Academy. I have been dancing since I was three years old and competitively since I was six. Tap has always been my favourite and strongest genre of dance. I can't imagine my life without it. In the spring, I auditioned for a spot on the Canadian Junior National Tap Team. I was 1 of 23 people chosen to be on the team that will be traveling to Riesa, Germany, this December, to represent Canada against more than 20 countries! It's like the Olympics for dance. I am beyond excited and extremely honoured to be a part of this team. I have been very busy training for this event and it has been fun getting to know my team mates. What an incredible experience it has been so far. At the competition, there will be 8 Judges from different countries - Australia, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, South Africa, Switzerland, and United States of America.  We will be dancing in rounds, for example, if there are 50 in a category, all 50 will dance, and then it is split down to 25, then to 12 then to the top 6 which then go to finals.  The top three teams will stand on a podium and the winning country’s anthem will be played.  It would be so amazing to experience that. I would like to thank Gabie’s Boutique for the support you give local dancers.  I am truly grateful your helping me to realize my dream. ~Samantha Kobitowich
