Abby: Nicole Jacklin School of Dance
Hi everyone it’s me Abby and I’m back to tell you about my February, so let’s get started. As I mentioned in my January post, I injured my back. Well I am happy to say that my back is getting a lot better so I thought I would share some of the things I’m doing to get well.  I am swimming 4 times a week, doing physio and manual therapy 2-3 times a week and eating lots of protein.  Every day competition gets closer and closer so to get ready I’m going to continue doing physio, keep swimming and just keep focusing on getting better.  Our competition team continues to practice for our upcoming events.  Some of our costumes have arrived and we are doing last minute adjustments to make sure they fit perfectly. It is an exciting time at our studio as we continue to prepare for competition season.  I am happy that my injury has not prevented me from dancing with my team. Over the past few weeks of February I am sure you have been watching the Olympics like me.  I personally like to watch figure skating and free style skiing. I hope everyone had a great Valentine’s Day and I’ll talk to you next month.

Blaire: Irish Dance Studio
This month has been a very exciting time for the studio.  Dancers in the stage division are putting the finishing touches on their dances for the first competition next month.  Costumes have also been arriving which is always an exiting time.   Dances are looking great and everyone is excited to begin competing. We are also focusing our studio's production of Celtic Heart, which includes live music and dancing from our world qualifiers headed to London, England in April.  Our dancers are also focusing on preparing for the World Irish Dance championships as well as local competitions that will begin to take place in upcoming weeks. February has been an overall exciting month for the studio and March promises to be full of exciting opportunities.

Caitlyn: A2Y Dance
This month we found out that a few of us needed to have a head shot for a Dance competition that we are going to next month. (This is for our solos) This is something I have never done before and it was such a cool experience. We had to look natural but at the same time have make up on! My mom and I decided that I should go to have my make up done but the professionals at MAC. They did an amazing job. The pictures turned out great, which made it very easy to choose a picture that would work. We have been practising very hard and all of our numbers are amazing. The A2Y showcase is coming up on March 17, 2014 at the Markham Theatre. This is a good way for all of our families to see all of our hard work and all of our fantastic costumes. I can hardly wait, its my favourite time of year. Good luck to all of my fellow ambassadors, I hope everyone has a fantastic dance competition season.

The competition season is so close and I can't wait!!! This year the ADA studio is travelling to Barrie, Scarborough, and Collingwood. We have so many great numbers and I am super excited to show them off, but that doesn't mean that I don't get nervous. Before I go on stage I calm myself down by talking to my friend, we help each other calm down. We help each other stop focusing on the dance that is on before us. Our teachers help us too, they tell us how the other dances are doing and what we will have to do to win. The final reason I don't get super nervous, is the team support. At ADA we support each, we cheer each other on, and we always know how to help each other. I always know that when I am dancing, my ADA family is there to support me and I love that feeling.

Competition season is just around the corner and I am so excited! I am also really excited for March break and some sunshine and relaxation before the pressure of competitions. Everyone at my studio has been working so hard this season and we are looking forward to seeing the results of all of our hard work on stage in only a few weeks. I hope that you and your studio have an amazing season like the one we hope to have! Happy March Break and then let's get out there and perform!!!!

February went by so fast, and I can’t believe competitions are starting already! I feel like this year has gone by so much faster than all the others. This past Friday iDance had its performance showcase, which is like our dress rehearsal for competitions. It was at Newmarket Theater and everyone had a lot of fun. I really enjoyed getting to watch all the dances that everyone has been working hard on all year. With less than a week till our first competition we are working extra hard to perfect our routines. Our fist competition is BeDance Competition in Orillia, and the excitement and nerves are starting to sink in. I hope everyone had a great February, and I hope everyone has a great start to the competition season.

Megan: AM Dance Force
AM Dance Force is working really hard to polish and perfect our dances for this season and we are all getting very excited for our competitions this year.  We are travelling to some of our favourite places this year such as Deerhurst, Brockville, Hamilton, Newmarket, and Kitchener.  We are especially excited for this years Newmarket competition because it will be the tenth anniversary and we are very proud to be supporting it.  Out costumes are all in and fitted and I love every single one of them. Our dances are amazing and who else to thank but our choreographer and studio owner Arlene.  I can't wait to get into the competitive scene this season and travel with my second family.

Rebecca: York Dance Academy
Happy February! Everything is so hectic right now. YDA is having their annual comp. Gala this Saturday-March 1st. This is when all of our competitive dancers get to perform their numbers for the first time and prepare for the busy competition season. At UHS we are busily preparing for our Spring Showcase this coming March 4th. I’m really excited for it because the show is combining all of the arts this year and us dancers are going to be accompanied by our very own UHS orchestra! It will be the first time performing with them on the same stage so it will be a lot of fun but a little hectic too. But I’m sure all will work out in the end. Since competition season is coming up very quickly on us, here are a few of my own personal tips to stay calm and prepare for the hectic environment of the competition season! I like to listen to music a lot. When I’m warming up, waiting for my turn backstage, in the car, even just walking around the competition I have my earbuds in because it takes me to another place. Don’t get me wrong, the experience of a competition is a lot of fun but sometimes it can give you a headache and stress so its nice to be in the competition but get away from it all at the same time. Thats my little tip!! I wish everyone the best of luck in their competition this season and the next time you will hear from me I will have taken a trip to France so I can’t wait to share some photos with you guys. Have a wonderful month!!

Sarah: Borden Dance
February has been a fairly uneventful month in our studio, but we are mainly focusing on adding steps to our routines and just polishing them up in time for our stage rehearsal for our annual recital in May. We are also adding new routines, such as a new hip hop routine, which is very strong and sassy in my opinion! Another thing we have been doing was working more into our new lyrical dance, and I like it so far. It is full of power, and it has been, according to my parents, improving my flexibility, strength and skill, which is always a nice thing to hear. The same goes for pointe. My parents also said that since I have gone on pointe, my dancing has really changed, that I have more control as to what I am doing and where I am going, as opposed to just doing the steps. Staying on the topic of change, we have finally moved into our new school! It is very big compared to our old school, but then again, our old school was very small, so I am not sure how big our school actually is. I still think it's pretty big because we have 2 floors full of classrooms, along with the section that has the gym and the office. I am happy about these new starts and changes so far, and I hope it stays that way!

Taura: Studio 48
Hey guys, well it's almost competition time and most of you are probably getting nervous. Me personally I get crazy scared and I usually don't eat as much but to keep myself healthy and make sure I stay on track I always have a couple smoothies. Before heading on stage I do ten jumpingjacks and listen to my fav song at the time. Right now it's "Done" by The Band Perry. This year and last year I haven't been on a comp team as our studio doesn't have one but I hope next season we will. The other exciting thing I did in February was a trip to Granada with my sister, her friend and my best friend. We had a great time with lots of dancing on the beach and doing stunts in the pools. We all had a great time and I hope you guys had a great month too. Till next time xoxo
